Since arriving in Weatherfield just over a year ago, Emma Brooker has fast become a favourite with some viewers – even winning Best Newcomer at the recent British Soap Awards.
A source of light relief, with a history of falling for the wrong man, the apprentice hairdresser doesn’t seem to have a serious bone in her body.
But all that is about to change.

Actress Alexandra Mardell, who plays the ditzy teenager, has confirmed that her character is about to get a more sober storyline.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the recent British Soap Awards, she revealed that her usually comedic plots will be replaced by some darker ones.
When asked about her lighthearted role, she replied: “There are going to be some serious storylines coming up for Emma this summer.
“So it will be nice to see how she can handle those sorts of situations. See what she’s like when she’s in a bit of trouble – see if she still finds it funny then!”

She also revealed that her character is “always looking for love” after her failed coupling with both David Platt and Chesney Brown.
The actress added that she “still feels very new” even though she “feels settled because everyone is so welcoming and lovely”.
Emma arrived on the street with a bang, when she slept with David who then asked her to move in with him.
However, unfortunately for Emma, David was just using her to forget his drug rape ordeal at the hands of Josh Tucker.
David and Emma’s fling didn’t last long and he soon dumped her to be reunited with Shona.

Emma then moved in with Maria and embarked on another ill-fated relationship with Chesney – but she lost out to Gemma Winter.
On winning her recent Best Newcomer Award, Alexandra said: “My first British Soap Awards and oooh what a night!
“Honestly so shocked to have won Best Newcomer, as I am sure you can tell. I have had the best year of my life working at Coronation Street.”

She went on to say: “As I truly wasn’t expecting to win, I didn’t have a speech prepared and just stumbled through the tears on stage.
“So thank you to the cast! Who have been so welcoming and taken me into your family! I feel so at home there already and that is down to the kindness and generosity of these incredibly talented people.”
She also thanked the writers “who make Emma who she is” and her “gorgeous” boyfriend Joe Parker, who is also an actor.
