Coronation Street viewers divided over Gemma and Paul's mum Bernie

She arrived in last night's episode

Coronation Street viewers have been left divided over Gemma and Paul's mum Bernie.

In last night's episode (July 24 2019) Bernie arrived in the Rovers to see her daughter Gemma, who is expecting quads, just as Chesney told Gemma he still loved her.

Obnoxious Bernie, played by former Casualty star Jane Hazlegrove, threw a few insults at Chesney calling him "Chutney" and claiming he was possessive.

However, not long into her arrival, she revealed she was three months behind on rent and needed money or she would be homeless.

As Gemma wanted to let her borrow from the money that had been raised to help her and Ches with their quads, Chesney put his foot down, although he then agreed to let Bernie come and stay at No.5 with him.

Things were soon made awkward for Chesney as he went to sleep on the sofa and Bernie offered to share the big bed with him instead.

Bernie's arrival has divided Corrie viewers with some loving her already.

Others however, are not so keen and called her "awful" and "nasty".

It looks like Bernie will continue to try it on with Chesney.

Later this week the kebab shop worker is totally freaked out when she is stark naked in his kitchen and suggests they spend the day in bed together.

He confides in Paul, who confronts his mum about causing trouble.

But while Paul might know what his mum is capable of, Gemma isn't so wise to her scheming and when Bernie tells her that Chesney tried it on with her, she is fuming and confronts her ex!

Chesney is stunned that Gemma would believe her mum over him, and it takes Paul to have a word with his sister to make her realise what Bernie is up to.

Gemma decides the only way she can work out who is telling the truth is to move into No.5 herself and keep an eye on the pair.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
