Coronation Street SPOILER: Wayne Hayes returns to cause trouble for Carla Connor

It might not be a welcome blast from the past

Roy Cropper is in for a big shock when his former foster son Wayne Hayes returns to Weatherfield and it’s not good news for the café owner or Carla Connor.

Wayne, a runaway who fled his abusive step-father, was taken in by Roy and his wife Hayley after he was caught stealing from their café in 2000.

The pair fostered Wayne (then played by Gary Damer), but were devastated when the 10-year-old eventually returned home the following year.

Roy (David Neilson) hasn’t seen Wayne since, but will be reunited with his former foster son when he returns to the cobbles 18 years on as a health and safety inspector, who will have a big part to play after a shock death at Carla’s factory.

Actor Adam Barlow is expected to take on the role of Wayne.

A source told The Mirror: “Little Wayne had a really tough time before, but now he’s all grown up and has a decent job. It’ll be interesting to see how he and Roy get along…”

It is unlikely to be good news for Roy, who has only just had to deal with the death of his mother, Sylvia, on almost the anniversary of his late wife Hayley’s death.

His surrogate daughter Carla (Alison King) is also unlikely to be happy about his return as he probes the upcoming death at Underworld, which she is blamed for.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has revealed that Carla’s mental health is set to suffer even further following the factory collapse.

He told The Sun Online: “We will do a standalone episode that focuses on Carla and her mental health. It’s going to be a serious piece of drama.

“Everyone will lose their jobs for the time being and Carla feels she’s being blamed. At first they think it’s an accident and people are pointing the finger at her. She spirals into a battle with her mental health.”

With Carla under pressure will Roy stand by her or choose his former foster son instead?
