Coronation Street SPOILER: Heartbreak for Roy as Sylvia dies

Things will never be the same again for poor Roy

Poor Roy Cropper is set to be left devastated next week when he finds out his mum Sylvia has taken a turn for the worst and he races to get to her bedside before it’s too late. But will he reach her in time?

Next week is already a sad time for Roy because it marks the anniversary of losing his beloved wife Hayley.

But when best friend Carla Connor finds Roy’s bed hasn’t been slept in, she immediately fears the worst considering what time of year it is, and calls the police to report him missing.

It’s only when she is on the phone giving the police a description of him that he walks through the door, flooding Carla with relief.

Apologising for worrying her, Roy reveals to Carla that he spent the night train spotting in an attempt to take his mind off things.

But things are about to get a lot harder for Roy later in the week when he is reminiscing about Hayley over lunch in the Bistro with Carla, only for Shona to arrive with bad news.

Roy is upset as Shona reveals his mum Sylvia has been taken seriously ill, having suffered a heart attack.

But it’s only when Roy calls the hospital that the true extent of Sylvia’s condition is revealed… leading to him racing to her bedside.

The next day Carla is surprised to see Roy back on the cobbles, and enquires after Sylvia. But it is only then that he confesses he was too late and, by the time he got to Hastings, his mum had died.

As Carla’s heart breaks for her friend, she decides to keep a close eye on him, especially because the week was already so tough because of Hayley’s death looming over him.

By the end of the week Carla is worried when she finds Roy cataloguing Sylvia’s belongings and unwilling to talk about how he is feeling… will she manage to get through to her friend before his grief becomes too much?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
