Coronation Street SPOILER: Roy goes missing

The fan favourite gets devastating news...

| Updated:

Roy Cropper has a truly horrible week coming up when he is reported missing on the anniversary of Hayley’s death, and finds out the devastating news that his mum has died.

The beloved Coronation Street character is left in turmoil when he discovers Sylvia has suffered a heart attack, almost exactly five years after his wife Hayley passed away.

The week starts off badly for Roy on Monday (21 January), when Carla discovers his bed hasn’t been slept in, and confides in Shona that she’s worried about him.

Carla knows it’s been five years since Hayley died by taking her own life in a heartbreaking right-to-die storyline, after she was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

When Carla takes a call from Sylvia and still can’t locate Roy, she reports him missing to the police.

However, the café owner finally returns when Carla is giving a description of him to the police, and apologises for causing any inconvenience.

In fact, the cardigan-wearing nerd-at-heart reveals he spent the night trainspotting.

On Wednesday (23 January), Roy gets bad news on an already bad day… Over lunch in the Bistro, Roy and Carla reminisce about Hayley, but are interrupted by Shona who tells Roy that Sylvia’s been taken seriously ill.

When Roy phones the hospital, he’s shocked to discover Sylvia’s had a heart attack and embarks on a trip to Hastings to visit her.

Sadly, on Friday (25 January), Roy returns home and tells Carla that he was too late, by the time he got to Hastings Sylvia had died.

Heartbroken for her friend, Carla is further concerned when she find him cataloguing all of Sylvia’s belongings – but unwilling to talk about her.

Is he bottling up his feelings?

Actress Stephanie Cole played the role of Sylvia on screen from 2011 to 2013.

Sylvia left the street when Roy’s wife Hayley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in one of the show’s most heartbreaking storylines.

She was a classic Corrie battleaxe who clashed with many of the street’s residents with her caustic comments and brash demeanour.

She was last mentioned in 2016 when Roy had to leave to help her after she fell and broke her hip dancing in Hastings.

A street favourite, Stephanie devastated fans after she departed by revealing she had no plans to return to the show.

She said: “I adored my time on Corrie. But I’m terrible, you see. I’m a little bit like a fly – I like to flit hither and thither.”
