Soap star Lucy Fallon has defended Coronation Street‘s controversial cheating plot.
Lucy’s character, Bethany, kissed Daniel Osbourne while his wife Sinead Tinker lay dying during her heartbreaking cancer battle.
Some fans were disgusted at the plot twist and said it ruined an otherwise well-executed exit storyline for Sinead.
Now, Lucy has defended the controversial plot.
She told The Sun: “When they [Daniel and Bethany] had the kiss, people were kicking off.

“But I feel like it was important for Corrie to show that Daniel was suffering so much, and he was losing his mind, that the kiss was just a moment where he wanted comfort.
“It wasn’t like he was ‘cheating’ on his wife. I don’t see it like that. And Bethany is obviously guilt-stricken.”
Viewers didn’t see it that way and accused to show of ‘bolting-on’ drama for drama’s sake.
One angry viewer said: “#CoronationStreet absolutely crying buckets! I am a massive Corrie fan, watching old and new episodes, and I am devastated. Very close to my reality!
“Not happy with the bolt-on story line of Bethany – as if Sinead’s suffering wasn’t emotional enough!”
A second said: “It kinda annoys me what the writers did with Sinead and Daniel. How dare they make Daniel kiss Bethany where he’s been loyal to Sinead throughout.

“Instead of giving her a lovely send off they had to squeeze one more drama into the storyline #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”
A third said: “I don’t think this Sinead story needed the Bethany subplot. #CoronationStreet #Corrie.”
Sinead died on Friday night’s (25.10.19) episode, slipping away as she watched Daniel read their son Bertie a bedtime story in their bedroom in heartbreaking scenes.
