He turned up as Steve's old school teacher

Coronation Street fans were delighted when a familiar face turned up in Weatherfield – none other than Mick Johnson from Brookside!

Well, not actual Mick, but the actor who played him, Louis Emerick turned up on the cobbles last night as new character Mike Thornberry – and caught the eye of Liz McDonald.

Mike is Liz’s son, Steve’s, former teacher and the Streetcars boss got a shock when he saw him propping up the bar in the Rovers Return.

Steve asked Liz to talk to Mike so he wasn’t lumbered with him – not predicting that his mum would turn her Flirtometer up to FULL.

Mike is now working as a cabbie and Liz wanted to get him a job at Streetcars with an unimpressed Steve.

Corrie fans were thrilled with his arrival and took to Twitter to share their views.

Louis recently admitted he was worried about his role in Coronation Street. He told BANG! Showbiz: “As I was waiting outside to go into the Rovers I couldn’t tell you how nervous I was. I was pacing up and down, and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Come on Louis, you’ve been doing this for 30 years..
