Soap has left fans fuming

Coronation Street fans have been left fuming after last night’s episode showed vicar Billy Mayhew high on heroin inside a church.

But the controversy doesn’t end there – as Billy was seen spinning out on the floor after taking drugs, his bother Lee Mayhew came too and stated: “This must be what heaven feels like.”

Fans of the show have hit out at the dark scenes – taking to social media to voice their outrage at the soap – branding the episode ‘irresponsible’.

One fuming fan even thought someone should be sacked for letting the episode go out before the watershed…

Corrie has come under fire for being too dark recently following serial killer Pat Phelan’s reign of terror, and with these latest from storylines, fans are not happy.

But the soap has defended it’s decision to screen Billy’s drug taking, with a spokesperson telling The Mirror: “Coronation Street has a strong tradition of tackling serious contemporary issues in a responsible way.

“In upcoming episodes we will be showing the very negative side of drug taking as Billy’s life starts to fall apart.”
