Coronation Street actress Ruxandra Porojnicu confirms Alina will be back

She joined the soap earlier this year

Actress Ruxandra Porojnicu, who plays Alina in ITV’s Coronation Street, has confirmed her character will be back, hinting the human trafficking storyline isn’t over.

The actress made her debut on the cobbles back in March playing trafficked nail technician Alina Pop.

Alina and Corrie resident Seb seemed to hit it off and ended up spending the night together, despite her running off when she spotted Jan and Eileen in Speed Daal.

It’s been a few weeks since viewers have seen Alina on screen, leaving one fan confused.

Ruxanxdra recently posed a picture on her Instagram page.

In the comments one fan was confused by her character’s absence and wrote: “What happened to your storyline? Did I miss it? Where have Seb and Jan gone?”

Ruxandra responded back to the Corrie fan by saying: “You didn’t miss it. Will be again around mid July x”

Earlier this year, the 24 year old actress revealed the very real horror behind the soap’s human trafficking storyline.

She told the Daily Star that her character’s human slavery plight could very well have happened to her when she first moved to the UK four years ago.

She told the newspaper that she had just £300 to her name when she moved to London from Romania in 2015 when she was 20.

With dreams of making it as an actress, Ruxundra threw caution to the wind and bravely headed for the UK in the hope of finding work.

Like many before her, Ruxundra had high expectations of a better life.

Thankfully, due to her ability to speak good English, she was able to get a job in Pizza Express as a waitress where she earned and saved money for acting classes.

She said: “This is why it is such an important storyline, because this really could’ve been me in Alina’s situation.

“I was desperate to find work when I first arrived and, looking back four years down the line, I had no idea how things worked in England.

“It’s so easy when you need money to trust the wrong people.”

She went on to say that her scenes are “hard-hitting” and she feels she has a “responsibility” to tell the story accurately after speaking to actual victims of human slavery and trafficking.

Coronation Street is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
