She told OK! magazine: “We were set up on a blind date by some mutual friends. I really didn’t want to go because at the time I thought all men were [bleeps] and I wanted to stay single forever.

“We organised one date and I chickened out and stood him up.

“Then, on the second attempt, I turned up and saw he had a shaved head, a gold tooth and was covered in tattoos and I thought, what am I doing?!”

The soap star is now planning to renew her wedding vows with her husband and is excited to have a smaller ceremony because their wedding was a huge “showbiz bash”.

She said: “Yes, we’re planning it right now! Our wedding was incredible but we got very swept up in the big, showbiz bash.

“Now we want to do something smaller, that is just about the two of us and our families.”

The Thunder Girls star also spoke about her depression and said her illness was so severe at one point she would drop out of social events because she was “terrified” of what other people would think of her.

She said: “I was dubious about turning 60 but it has brought with it a feeling of contentedness. I’m the most confident I’ve been in years. For the first time in a long time, I don’t care what people think. I’m living my life for me and I’m having a great time.”
