Coronation Street: Sue Cleaver admits she’s training for new role away from ITV soap

The actress has a secret second career

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver is training for a very different kind of career.

The Eileen Grimshaw actress has been a mainstay on the cobbles for 22 years since arriving in 2000.

She has featured in some of the biggest storylines in the last few decades.

Her son Todd was the soap’s first ever gay character and his doomed relationship with Sarah Platt sparked a feud between their mothers that has lasted until this day.

Eileen also married notorious serial killer Pat Phelan – and thought she had killed him in self-defence.

And now she is involved with funeral director George Shuttleworth. Although fans fear George is connected to Phelan over his dark secret.

But off-screen actress Sue’s life is a world away from the cobbles drama.

The star also revealed it can be strange for her clients when they recognise her from Corrie.

She added: “It is maybe a bit weird for them at first, but once we start talking, they forget all about it. The novelty wears off.

“The people come to see me when they have something they want to talk about and when they have a problem. That is what they are concerned about, not who I am.”
