Coronation Street star James Burrows hints he’s leaving the soap

He's revealed he wants to try other roles

Corrie’s James Burrows aka Ali Neeson has teased we may not be seeing him on our screens for much longer in a new interview.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, James revealed he wants to try other roles – which means he won’t be staying on the Street forever.

He said: “I won’t stay for years. There are other roles I’d like to do.”

With the upcoming departure of his on-screen mum, Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh), could the pair’s exits be tied in to each other?

Ali has been off screen over the last few months, only reappearing recently, and deciding he wants to be a doctor again.

He quit the profession after murdering gangster Ronan Truman who was threatening his family.

After a car chase in which Leanne Batterbsy was left fighting for her life, Ronan was impaled on a metal spike. Although at first Ali tried to save him, Ronan continued to insist once he got the opportunity he’d kill Ali and his entire family.

Realising Ronan would never stop, Ali pulled the post keeping him alive out and killed him.

His guilt became too much and he quit his medical training, but will his exit tie in with him confessing to the crime?

As he prepares to return to the job he loved, will the memories come flooding back to him and be too much to bear?

Or could we see him turn serial killer? We know there’s a new super-villain on the cobbles, and although Ali’s name has not been rumoured, could he become the next Corrie killer?

Off-screen things for James are far more settled. He’s expecting a baby in October with his partner Sophie Coates and has just revealed the baby’s gender – they’re having a little girl.

After Sophie called him while he was filming to tell him their pregnancy joy, the first person he confided the news in was Kym.

“She got really excited and gave me a massive hug and told me I’d be a great dad,” he revealed in his OK! chat.

James also revealed he was planning to propose to Sophie before they found out she was pregnant, and that he’d like to get engaged soon.
