Chesney Brown’s unexpected date twist on Coronation Street

We didn't see this pairing coming

| Updated:

Coronation Street’s Chesney Brown has had the hots for Gemma Winter for what feels like forever – but next week he ends up dating someone entirely different!

After organising to meet Gemma for dinner at the Bistro, loved-up Ches gets his glad rags on and decides now is the time to impress Gemma.

But instead of the romantic dinner for two that the kebab shop worker envisaged, it turns out to be a disaster date when Gemma misunderstands Chesney’s romantic intentions and brings friend Spike along too.

Sensing that all is not well in Chesney’s world, Emma steps in to save his embarrassment and makes it a double date for the foursome.

But while Chesney still only had eyes for Gemma, it is clear that Emma has got the hots for him. Talk about a complicated love triangle!

The atmosphere is awkward throughout dinner, and while Chesney is disappointed that his date with Gemma didn’t work out, he has no idea that the object of his affections is secretly harbouring feelings for him, too.

Gemma later explains to Rita that while she might be spending time with Spike, he’s no match for loveable Ches – but when will she get round to telling Chesney how she feels?

Meanwhile, Emma asks Chesney out on another date.

He’s not that into the idea of dating Emma when he really wants Gemma (are you keeping up?!) but agrees when she says it will be good date practise for when he goes out with the girl of his dreams.

Over dinner at the end of next week, Emma makes notes on Chesney’s attempts at flirty banter and tells him where he can improve if he wants to get Gemma’s attention.

But while Chesney is lusting after unlucky-in-love Gemma, how long will it take him to realise that Emma is falling for him hook, line and sinker?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
