Coronation Street SPOILER: Ryan sacked after doing Michelle’s dirty work

Robert decides to teach him a lesson

Corrie’s Ryan Connor finds himself without a job when Michelle Connor orders him to spy on her former fiance Robert Preston.

With Robert and Michelle over, Robert went off the rails and disappeared for a few days.

During this time the factory collapsed and he’s been named by the show as one of the suspects in tampering with the roof in a bid to punish Carla as he thinks she’s responsible for the breakdown of his relationship.

Robert claims he knew nothing about what had happened when he hears details of the disaster, and decides to stay in town, but Michelle’s immediately suspicious.

Sensing that something isn’t quite right, she orders Ryan to keep an eye on him and ever the dutiful son, he agrees.

It seems Michelle was right to be concerned though, when Robert continues to act strangely, clearly under pressure and stressed about something.

Ryan watches him like a hawk and decides to report back to his mum what he’s seen.

As he’s on the phone to Michelle telling her Robert’s preoccupied with something, Robert overhears and realises he’s being spied on.

Furious and in no mood for explanations, Robert sacks Ryan on the spot.

Angry Ryan fumes at his mum that her plan has backfired and now he’s jobless thanks to her games.

Robert meanwhile decides to really stick the boot in by approaching Billy about the Bistro’s job opening.

He tells the vicar he’s got a vacancy and one of the young offenders Billy looks after can start straight away. Billy’s really pleased, but given Michelle was dead against the idea, she’s not going to be happy.

Is Robert just playing games to wind Michelle up – or is he trying to make amends to the community for doing something terrible?

Robert is one of the six suspects in the factory roof collapse. Speaking about Robert’s shady behaviour, Tristan Gemmill who plays him said: “Robert goes away, so you will wonder if he’s done something and left the scenes of destruction behind him.

“When he comes back, he claims to know nothing of the roof collapse.

“In the episodes that follow, we see him back talking to Michelle, albeit a bit strained, but he’s also very evasive about something. That’s when you start to think, ‘Is he capable of something dark, or has he got a different secret altogether?'”

Coronation Street is on next week on Sunday at 8pm and Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
