Coronation Street’s Daniel may reunite with mum Denise as Sinead’s life ends

Denise was last seen in 2017

As Coronation Street‘s Daniel Osbourne faces the toughest test of his life  – watching wife Sinead pass away – there’s one person he could need more than anybody: his mum, Denise Osbourne.

Could viewers see her return to support her son in his time of need?

Over the past year, Daniel and his wife Sinead have gone through some tough times.

During her pregnancy, Sinead was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Although months ago, after having treatment she was told her tumour had shrunk and the cancer showed no signs of spreading, she recently discovered a lump on her neck.

She was later told her cancer had spread and she didn’t have much longer left to live.

Meanwhile, Daniel’s mother Denise left the cobbles in 1997 but has made a couple of appearances since and was last seen back in 2017.

Never say never.

She returned to the cobbles when her son was at breaking point.

Speaking at a recent Coronation Street event, Producer Iain MacLeod addressed why Ken’s former lover hasn’t been seen since Sinead learned of her diagnosis.

He said: “We’ve thought about it but I think the direction we wanted to go was focusing on the characters that we already have.

“I also felt that there is enough emotional complexity for Daniel just in the simplicity in what we’ve done, and adding a whole layer of other mummy issues probably would’ve muddied the waters.”

Iain teased Denise could make a comeback in the future: “But never say never,” he said.

“That’s certainly an interesting background relationship that’s been so informative.

“The whole relationship is so formative for that character, so it’s certainly not out of the question.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
