Clarence House dismiss claims Prince Charles speculated over Archie’s skin colour

They called the claims 'fiction'

| Updated:

Clarence House has spoken out over claims Prince Charles once speculated over grandson Archie’s skin colour.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle previously shocked the world after claiming there were concerns about the colour of their son’s skin.

But while the couple didn’t name the royal in question, American author Christopher Andersen alleges that Charles made the comment.

Prince Charles claims

The author made the claim in his book Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan.

According to Christopher, the Prince of Wales made the comment shortly after Harry and Meghan’s engagement.

He writes in his book that Charles said: “I wonder what the children will look like?”

This is fiction and not worth further comment

Charles apparently then went on to add: “I mean, what do you think their children’s complexion might be?”

However, a Clarence House spokesperson has dismissed the claim.

Following the claims over the weekend, they shared: “This is fiction and not worth further comment.”

What did the Sussexes claim?

Harry and Meghan made the claims during their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview earlier this year.

Speaking about her son, Meghan shared: “In those months when I was pregnant, we had in tandem the conversations of him not being given security or a title.

“And also concerns about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.

“That was relayed to me from Harry, those were conversations the family had with him.”

Oprah later revealed it was not the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh who made the comment.

She confirmed on CBS This Morning: “He did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure that I knew – and if I had the opportunity to share it – that it was not his grandmother nor his grandfather that were part of those conversations.

“He did not tell me who were a part of those conversations, as you can see I tried to get those answers on camera and off.”

Following the explosive chat, the palace also released a statement on the interview.

It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”
