She said: “I’d come back after being away for so long, I haven’t lived in the states for 10 years. I lived in Canada for seven years for work. So a really long lapse of time from being here.

“To come back and to just see the state of affairs, it was just devastating. It was just sad to see where our country was at that moment.

She added: “So, yeah, it’s good to be home.”

It’s no secret that Meghan and Harry have had their difficulties with the media. In the interview, Meghan said: “If you’re just trying to grab someone’s attention, you’re going for something salacious versus what is truthful.”

In her video, as part of a one-on-one virtual interview, Meghan spoke out about the toxicity of the media and branded journalism as ‘salacious’.

She said: “There is so much toxicity out there in what is being referred to as, my husband and I talk about it often, this to the economy for attention.”

Meghan Markle was rumoured to be involved in Finding Freedom biography

Finding Freedom, written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, has made a series of claims about the pair’s exit from royal life.

However, sources have said the book paints a “very one sided account” of Meghan and Harry’s decision to step down.

Furthermore, the book is said to reveal a host of intimate information about the couple from an army of anonymous friends and sources.

Meghan and Harry quit their senior royal roles in March, and have faced difficult media headlines ever since. Furthermore, there have been rumours the rift between brothers Harry and William has grown further.

Earlier this year, they said in a statement they wanted to become “financially independent” and split their time between the US and the UK.

The couple have been living in Los Angeles with their one-year-old son Archie.

The pair are said to have splashed out on a new home in Montecito in Santa Barbara. Located just under 100 miles from Los Angeles, it is a hotspot for billionaires and A-list celebrities.

Recently, a source told the Mail Online that Charles was keen to help Meghan and Harry secure the property.

The source said: “Charles had been keen to help out and put his hand in his own pocket to assist. He is devoted to both his sons and any time he can assist them he always will.”

The home was bought for $14.7 million (£11.2 million at current conversion rates).
