Meghan Markle enjoys tea with The Queen – after Prince Harry sets up a meeting

Cue a fresh wave of engagement rumours!

| Updated:

Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance became public last year, there’s been speculation about when they’ll announce an engagement.

Not if. When. Because, you know, famous people can’t just date and enjoy themselves without everyone screaming MARRIAGE!

However, many people reckon the latest rumour, if true, is the clearest sign yet that a proposal is coming… or maybe even already quietly happened.

According to the Daily Mail, Harry and Suits actress Meghan enjoyed tea with The Queen at Buckingham Palace last week.

An insider claimed the meeting, instigated by Harry, took place on Thursday and was a low-key, informal event.

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, reportedly arrived at the palace around 5pm and were taken to the Queen’s private sitting room to enjoy tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes.

The meeting apparently lasted an hour – long enough for Meghan and The Queen to have a proper chat…

Of course, there’s no word from Kensington Palace on whether this is accurate.

A spokesperson would only say: “We have refrained from commenting on all previous stories about Prince Harry introducing Meghan Markle to members of the Royal Family and therefore we have no comment.”

And we wouldn’t expect them to say anything, given Harry’s rare statement last year imploring everyone to respect his and Meghan’s privacy.

None the less, reports that Meghan has now met The Queen will only add fuel to the fire where a royal wedding is concerned.

There have been three major signs in recent months that point to an engagement being likely: Meghan talking publicly about Harry for the first time, their first public appearance together, and Meghan reportedly quitting Suits.

In her first-ever interview about Harry, Meghan told Vanity Fair in September: “We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”

She added: “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.

“This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

That was followed by a public appearance together at the Invictus Games in Toronto, where they held hands and kissed in view of the cameras.

Meghan’s been a regular visitor to Kensington Palace over the last year, while Harry has also flown out to Canada, where she films Suits.

However, recent reports claim Meghan is considering leaving her role in the legal drama – sparking rumours it’s because she’s clearing her calendar to become a full-time royal.

A source told the Daily Star: “Meghan knows she can’t really act at the same time as being a princess and is happy to make this career sacrifice.”

Of course, if an engagement does happen, what we all really want to know is whether we get the day off work for the wedding!
