Meghan ‘gave birth to Baby Sussex in hospital as home birth hopes were dashed'

The Duchess of Sussex's hopes of having a home birth were reportedly dashed as she was whisked to hospital to give birth to Baby Sussex.

Meghan and her husband Harry became parents for the first time on Monday as they welcomed a baby boy into the world.

New daddy Harry told reporters that Meghan had given birth to their son, who was overdue, in the early hours of Monday morning and called it the "most amazing experience".

The royal baby, who has yet to be given a name, was believed to have been born at the couple's home of Frogmore Cotttage on the Windsor Estate.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Meghan was taken to hospital by Harry and their security team on Sunday night.

It was reportedly so secret that even senior royals were not initially aware.

Ent Daily has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

Harry and Meghan announced the birth of their son in a post on Instagram on Monday.

It read: "We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses' son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

"The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.

"More details will be shared in the forthcoming days."

A thrilled Harry later spoke to reporters and said he was "incredibly proud" of his wife.

He said: "I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy earlier this morning, a very healthy boy.

"Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It's been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined.

"I'm so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for so I'm just over the moon."

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer were "delighted with the news".

Meghan had her mother Doria Ragland by her side as she gave birth and Doria was "overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild".

The Duchess' estranged father Thomas Markle sent his congratulations to the couple in a statement to The Sun and added that he's "proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family".

Harry said that he and Meghan are still deciding on a name for their son, and will announce it in coming days.

Bookies have revealed that James and Alexander are currently the joint favourite names that Baby Sussex could be given.
