Lizzie Cundy has claimed that Meghan Markle once asked her to play matchmaker and find her a “famous British man”.
Three years before she met Prince Harry, the royal mum-of-one struck up a friendship with Lizzie and apparently asked her to play Cupid.
Lizzie says the two became friends in 2013 and she attended a charity dinner with Meghan, where it seems the ladies had a girlie chat. The Sun revealed that Meghan asked Lizzie: “Do you know any famous guys?”
Meghan also revealed that she was single and said she “really loved English men”, which promoted Lizzie to offer: “We’ll go out and find you someone.”
Revealing details of her plan to find Meghan a man in her new autobiography, Tales From The Red Carpet, Lizzie said she had a certain footballer in mind.
“I was thinking about some of the Chelsea lot and I thought of Ashley Cole as he’d split from Cheryl,” Lizzie – who was married to footballer Jason Cundy – wrote.
However, she added: “I showed her the photo of Ashley and she was like: ‘Oh yeah, he’s cute. Does he have a reputation?’ I was like: ‘Well yeah, but you’re only here to have a bit of fun.'”
Revealing that the duchess is “great fun” and “liked a drink”, Lizzie’s friendship with Meghan sadly didn’t go the distance.
Lizzie said Meghan ghosted her after her relationship with Prince Harry was public knowledge.
Meanwhile, as Ent Daily reported, Meghan also apparently exchanged messages with former X Factor winner Matt Cardle before she began dating Harry.
The Sun claimed that Meghan started chatting to the singer via social media in 2015, after he followed her and she followed him back – and slid into his DMs.
A source revealed: “Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so was very flattered. But then he met his girlfriend and knew it wasn’t appropriate to keep talking to Meghan so he ended up ghosting her.”
Ent Daily has contacted reps for Meghan for comment.
