Meghan Markle’s latest outfit has a secret connection to her wedding dress

Could Meghan Markle’s cape dress be a discreet love note to the gown she wore on her big day?

Meghan Markle has debuted another stunning regal ensemble – a minimal cape dress – as she embarks on her first solo-public engagement with the Queen in Cheshire, England, today.

The 36-year-old Duchess of Sussex has been quietly rolling out her royal style trademark of neutral dresses, having worn nude and blush for her previous official state visits and appearances. And her latest look is no exception, as she opted for an oyster-hued shift dress, designed by Givenchy, complete with a caped bodice and a fitted pencil skirt. Perfection, don’t you think?

Now, while most women don’t usually get to wear their wedding dress again, Meghan Markle is was no regular bride. Don’t get us wrong; we’re not saying that she stepped out in the same gown in which she said her ‘I dos’ with Prince Harry. Rather, she chose to wear the same designer.

Meghan’s demure wedding dress was also created by Givenchy, under the direction of the fashion house’s British artistic director, Clare Waight Keller. And for what many would argue is the most important engagement of her royal inauguration – her first independent outing with the Queen (who looked incredible in a Stewart Parvin lime green coat frock and matching Rachel Trevor Morgan hat) – Meghan has once again turned to the brand for style advice.

This subtle nod to her big day is not only extremely touching, but it will no doubt give her some extra confidence on what must be a daunting day in her professional life.

Well, if you had the chance to wear a dress by the person who created the garment you felt most beautiful in, it’s likely it would give you a bit of boost, too.

Accessorising her look with a fine leather belt, a CH Carolina Herrera clutch, her trusty black court shoes (she’s not the only sartorially blessed star who’s smitten with these chic heels) and dainty jewellery. Understated, but oh-so effective.
