It's a regal one!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child, as son, has now arrived into the world – and bookies have released odds on the most popular boys’ names.

And – drum roll – odds-on favourite is Arthur.

A spokesperson for Betfair said: “Now that it has been confirmed we have a new baby Prince, Arthur remains the favourite at 3/1.”

A statement from Kensington Palace just after 1pm on Monday confirmed Kate had safely given birth to the couple’s third child, and that mum and baby are doing well.

The full statement read: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 11.01 hrs.

“The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz.

“The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”

The new arrival is now fifth in line to the throne, pushing his uncle, Prince Harry, down to sixth place.

It’s not yet known when we will get our first glimpse at the newest member of the Cambridge family, but it’s expected Kate and William will follow their usual tradition of posing for photos outside the hospital with their baby in due course.

There is anticipation that royal watchers may also get a glimpse of Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

After Charlotte’s birth in 2015, William was seen leaving the hospital and returning with his son, who gave photographers a wave.

It’s believed George has been in school all morning, while Charlotte has been at home at Kensington Palace.

Kate, 36, was admitted to the Lindo Wing, a private maternity ward at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, in the early hours of Monday morning, with husband William, 35, by her side.

A statement released by Kensington Palace read: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour.

“The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”

It’s the same hospital where their elder children Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, were born.

Following news of Kate’s labour beginning, photographers, reporters and well-wishers began to flock to the hospital, hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous family when they leave.

Kensington Palace had previously confirmed Kate’s due date was April, but an exact day was never been publicly confirmed, although there had been rumours it fell on April 23.

Royal watchers knew the baby’s birth was imminent when parking restrictions went up outside the Lindo Wing earlier this month, while barriers were also erected in anticipation of the crowds outside.

Kate and William had chosen not to learn the gender of their third child ahead of its birth, which is also what they did with George and Charlotte.

There’s no indicator of when the baby’s name will be released, although with both George and Charlotte, their names were revealed to the public two days after their births.
