Love Island host Caroline Flack hits back at claims she ‘snubbed’ Francesca

She said she doesn't "hold grudges"

Caroline Flack has insisted she didn’t ‘snub’ Love Island contestant Francesca Allen on last night’s edition of Aftersun.

Francesca was voted off the show alongside Michael Griffiths and the dumped islanders appeared on the spin-off show on Sunday night.

But viewers were convinced that Caroline swerved a hug from Francesca after the contestant apparently called the presenter a “dirty paedophile” to her face years ago.

However, Caroline took to Twitter on Monday to clear things up.

She wrote: “As you know… I hate commenting on stuff… I didn’t snub Francesca.. in fact quite the opposite.

“Made her feel very welcome as soon as she got to the studio. I don’t hold grudges.. and the wellbeing of our islanders is important to me. Thought she was a great islander.”

It comes after Francesca’s friend claimed that she threw the offensive insult at Caroline at the Wireless Festival, just after she’d split up with Harry Styles.

Caroline’s much publicised romance with the One Direction star hit the headlines due to their 14-year age gap – she was then 31, compared to his 17.

In a tweet, the friend wrote in 2012: “Highligh of the dayyy seeing Caroline Flack and calling herrr a dirtyy pedo withhhh @francesca_allen hahaha (sic).”

And viewers were convinced that Caroline hadn’t forgotten about the jibe as she appeared to ‘snub’ Francesca last night.

Caroline conducted a brief interview with Francesca before showing the contestant her best bits from her stint on the reality show.

After the best bits were shown, both women stood up and Francesca looked as if though she was expecting a hug.

However, Caroline quickly walked away to talk to her other guests.

The awkward move didn’t go unnoticed by fans watching Francesca’s interview and they shared their thoughts on Twitter.

One person said: “Francesca awkwardly playing it off after Caroline walked right past her when she thought she was gonna go in for a hug.”

Another wrote: “Did I just see Francesca expecting a hug from Caroline that she just brushed her off wtaf?!”

A third added: “Francesca and Caroline on Aftersun was funny to watch especially when Francesca stood up for what I’m guessing was a hug and then awkwardly sat back down when she didn’t get one – guessing Caroline didn’t forget the ‘pedo’ comment.”

After the tweet resurfaced, a spokesperson for Francesca told The Sun: “This was a historic tweet that has not come from Francesca directly.

“Francesca can’t reply as she is in the villa but she would be mortified if she was judged based on the actions of a 16-year-old friend.

“She has a lot of respect for Caroline and is looking forward to meeting her.”
