X-Factor’s Scarlett Lee opens up about Simon Cowell’s support during “tough time”

Singer suffered eye injury after saving family from fire

X Factor contestant Scarlett Lee has revealed that the support of judge Simon Cowell has helped her get through the last week – after she suffered an eye injury during a fire at her brother’s house.

Scarlett’s brother Benjamin was at home with his wife Sharon and their four young children when their home caught fire on Sunday morning.

Scarlett was there to help the family escape – but was hospitalised afterwards, due to an eye injury caused by flying embers.

In an interview with the Mirror Online, she claimed that support from her fellow X Factor contestants, and from the judges, had helped her get through the week.

“The other contestants have been really supportive and have been looking after me,” she said. “And the whole of The X Factor team, my X Factor family, have been there for me and I’m so grateful.

“Also thanks to Simon who has been supporting me through the week.”

The 20-year-old singer – who works as a make-up-artist in Surrey – has taken some time off to recover from her ordeal, but claims she’s ready to get back on stage.

“I am ready for the weekend and I feel I am ready to tackle my song and get back on The X Factor stage,” she said. “This is my dream and it’s where I want to be.”

She took a philosophical attitude to the fire – saying that life will always have its trials, and that she was ready to make the best of things.

“It has been a tough time for me this week – storms will come and go but there will always be sunshine,” she said.
