X Factor winner Matt Terry ‘nearly shot’ by police in Miami

The winner of the 13th series of the X Factor has spoken about an incident that occurred while he was in Miami

X Factor winner Matt Terry has revealed he was “nearly shot” by police while recording his new album in the US.

The 24-year-old spoke about the alleged incident on Facebook while recording the first instalment of a new series of weekly videos called Matt Terry Mondays.

He told his fans that during his time in Miami “something very scary, but very funny at the same time happened to me”.

In the clip he told fans: “While I was in Miami I set off the studio alarm and before I knew it I had Miami police running around the corner.

“They held me at gunpoint. I had two cops about to shoot me because they thought I was stealing from the studio.”

The singer continued: “The first thing I said was ‘I’m from London’. I don’t know how that was going to get me out of it but luckily someone from the studio turned up and saved the day.

“So I’m safe, I’m alive and I didn’t get shot!”

Matt, who beat Finnish singer Saara Aalto on The X Factor last year, went on to explain that he’s been over in the States working with Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias’s record producers on his new album.

He added: “Also did the shoot for my album which I’m so excited about. We had (an) old school car, it’s all very Miami themed. It was so much fun, I can’t wait to show you guys.”

Terry is also reported to have collaborated with Bailamos singer Iglesias on a song.

Matt’s music career has been going from strength to strength and he recently featured on Simon Cowell’s charity single, Bridge Over Troubled Water, in tribute to those affected in the Grenfall Tower fire.

And now he’s landed a collaboration with King of Latin Pop Enrique, 42.

Matt, who is fluent in Spanish after living in Spain for eight years with his grandparents, revealed: “Enrique asked me to be part of this track, which is amazing.

“We’re label mates and both signed to RCA but mainly it’s because I have a Spanish background.

“I sing the second verse and the second chorus. We did it out in Miami. They said, ‘Enrique wants you’.”

He added: “I used to sing his songs as a kid in my room in English and Spanish. I’ve been working out a lot. I’m prepping myself for a sexy Spanish music video.

“Forget Simon Cowell’s unbuttoned shirts — I’m taking all the buttons off!”

And Matt revealed he has grown close to Spanish singer Ana Mena after working with her on another track.

Matt said: “I went to Madrid to do a collaboration and got to meet this amazing girl, Ana.

“We hit it off straight away and get on really well. She’s going to be on my album.

“We had a spark.”

Could this be a fresh new romance for Matt?

“She’s huge in Spain and she’s really hot as well. It was win-win!

“We had a spark, we text and we’ll see each other outside of work,” he added.

It seems everything is falling into place for Matt!
