Viewers brand Good Morning Britain interview “tasteless” following Las Vegas shootings

Guest was put on the spot about the tragic events

Good Morning Britain delivered the dreadful news about the shootings at a Las Vegas concert this morning, as the story was breaking.

But some viewers were unhappy with certain aspects of the show’s coverage – namely hijacking a planned interview with Mariah Carey.

The singing diva was due to be talking about her Christmas tour – hence the tree in the background, in case you were wondering.

However, Piers Morgan instead turned his questioning to the shootings at a country music festival near Mandalay Bay on the Las Vegas strip.

Mariah, beaming in from LA, was unaware of the tragedy unfolding until Piers filled her in live on air.

He explained to viewers that she knew Vegas well as she had recently completed her music residency there.

The 47-year-old looked visibly shocked as Piers broke the news.

“This is horrible,” she said. “I pray for the victims.”

Anchor Piers then showed her alarming footage from the scene, Mariah continued: “That’s awful.

“I pray for the victims. I hope all this can stop.

“This type of thing happening anyway is a huge tragedy.

“I hope we have an end to this as soon as possible.”

Viewers were appalled by the show’s lack of sensitivity towards the US singer.

One said: “I feel sorry for Mariah, she should have been briefed about the shooting before the interview.”

Another added: “Someone should have spoken to Mariah off air letting her know what was going on, then postponed, instead of throwing that at her.”

A third wrote: “@GMB interviews Mariah Carey reclining on couch about the live terror attack in Vegas. Tweets you never thought you’d write.”

Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the shootings, which have so far claimed the lives of two people, and left over 100 more injured.
