Viewers agree that Phil Mitchell DIDN’T drive Lisa mad

Telly watchers back Phil in debate about who drove Lisa mad

EastEnders fans get so involved in the action, and Thursday night’s double bill was no different.

During the two episodes, many felt for Phil Mitchell after he was blamed for Lisa Fowler’s mental health problems.

She was so far over the edge of sanity that she ended up kidnapping her own daughter from hospital and keeping her captive in a hotel room, fearful that Phil would harm her.

Phil, who realised that Lisa was slightly unstable since her return to Albert Square, was terrified that his daughter was in danger as she was still seriously ill after being burned horrifically at the school prom.

Of course, it didn’t take long for wily Phil to eventually track them down. But that was just the start of his problems.

At first his seriously poorly daughter wouldn’t let him in the room, but when he finally did get through the door he found her writhing in agony on the floor.

As he tried to go to Louise, a shaking, sobbing and clearly deranged Lisa thwacked him across the head with the phone.

“Put the phone down you mad cow,” Phil raged and screamed for someone to call an ambulance.

Luckily, after he verbally attacked Lisa for putting his daughter in danger, Sharon arrived with paramedics in time to save the day.

However, afterwards, Sharon turned on Phil and said she thought he was to blame for Lisa’s state of mind.

But viewers jumped to the defence of Phil.

One viewer said: “Lisa’s mental illness means her judgment is clouded, but I don’t think Phil’s directly to blame. The illness is the real villain.”

Another added: “Yes, Lisa’s mentally ill due to Phil, but implying this situation is his fault too is ridiculous. Victimhood doesn’t justify it.”

One viewer defended Phil and reminded others that he had been throughout the wars too. “Actually, blaming Phil for Lisa’s mental illness is wrong. He had/has alcoholism, which is also a mental illness.”
