They have a sizzling on-screen chemistry as husband and wife Ross and Demelza Poldark, and now there are rumours that their relationship has blossomed away from the cameras.

Heartthrob Aidan Turner, 33, split from his artist girlfriend Nettie Wakefield earlier this month, while Eleanor, 25, is single after splitting from boyfriend Ben Atkinson. Ben played Aidan’s stunt double on Poldark.

Aidan and Eleanor were spotted “cosying up” at the Groucho Club, a members club in Soho, London.

“The chemistry between them was clear to see,” said a source. “She was stroking his arm and they were really close.”

“It really looked like more than just a friendship.”

Eleanor has previously spoken about how at ease she feels with Aidan and has described their relationship as being “like an old married couple”.

She admits to finding sex scenes with Aidan quite “awkward”.

“I’m a complete kid when it comes to sex scenes,” she has said.

“It takes me at least two takes to stop laughing. Aidan’s the same – both of us will be laughing our heads off.”

“I didn’t have a clue who he was when I auditioned for the role,” she has admitted. “I guess he’d done The Hobbit but I’m very behind with all sorts of technology and film… it takes me ages to catch up on things.”

Aidan gets a lot of press attention, something which Eleanor tries to avoid. “Aidan’s a beautiful man – absolutely gorgeous – but I think he would like to be recognised for his performance, and I would like to stop being asked about his chest,” she said.

Poldark fans have been entranced by Ross and Demelza’s relationship.

“What people love about Demelza and Ross is that their marriage is very real,” said Eleanor. “They have a lot of obstacles we all face… there’s always another woman who drives the wife mad.”
