I’m A Celeb star plans move to America because he ‘can’t walk down street without being recognised’

The price of reality show fame

| Updated:

Despite readily agreeing to sign up to several reality shows, it appears Joey Essex has finally had enough of the fame game.

Joey, who after quitting The Only Way Is Essex went on to star in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and even his own show Educating Joey Essex, has decided he wants to up sticks and move Stateside.

And his reason for making the drastic change? He’s fed up of being stared at in the street.

In a new interview with The Sun, Joey has claimed he’s been offered showbiz work in Los Angeles and said he can’t walk down the road – unless he’s wearing a hat.

The reality star, 27, said: “I’m going to America soon to meet agents. I’ve been offered presenting but I don’t feel like me when I do it – all I want to do is be Joey Essex.

“I want a fresh start in America. In England I can’t walk down the street without a hat on.”

Joey had better not start hanging out with old TOWIE pal Mark Wright once he’s safely landed in LA, as he definitely couldn’t avoid being spotted then!

Despite his view on fame, Joey is set to appear in yet another reality show – E4’s brand new Five Star Hotel, which sees five celebs take over the running of a luxury hotel in Greece.

The other stars taking on the challenge include Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews, Geordie Shore’s Holly Hagan, Ashley Cain from Ex On The Beach and Joey’s fellow TOWIE pal Lydia Bright.

Guests will be seen checking into the hotel throughout the 15-part show before giving each of the reality stars a rating out of five.

By all accounts, the gang all get on with each other apart from Joey and Spencer.

Given that Spencer’s parents own the luxurious Eden Rock Hotel and Villas in the Caribbean, he probably feels he already knows a thing or two about this hotel-running malarkey.

In a chat with New magazine, Spencer said: “Joey and I are both very competitive but naturally we can’t both be right. I was wrong sometimes, he was wrong others. We clashed a little bit.”

Joey added: “Everyone just clashed with Spencer. He thinks he’s above everyone. That’s just him but I don’t judge him on that.”

When asked why the pair clashed, Joey said: “Spencer thinks it’s because we both feel like we’re top of our gang. Like I’m the top of Essex and he’s the king of Chelsea.”

Five Star Hotel kicks off on E4 this Monday (12 March) at 10pm.
