This Morning pay emotional tribute to Denise Robertson

The 83-year-old's son teared up when speaking about his late mum as he appeared on the show

One year after Denise Robertson passed away from pancreatic cancer ITV’s This Morning paid a heartwarming tribute for the star.

Denise’s son Mark also appeared on the show to remember his mum on the first anniversary of her death.

The lunchtime show shared a touching video which remembered Denise’s “warmth, empathy and enthusiasm for helping others”.

The video showed the nurses from The Royal Marsden Hospital who treated Denise share their memories of the Agony Aunt.

One nurse recalled: “She was enthusiastic about other people.

“Often she didn’t want to talk about her, she actually wanted to talk about other people and what was going on and have a joke.”

Another clinical nurse, Perrie Luke, said: “Even when things were really really tough it didn’t seem to get her down. She would always concentrate on the positives.”

As the clip ended Denise’s son Mark joined hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on the This Morning sofa.

After watching the video Mark told the presenters: “The love that was shown when mum died was a big thing.”

Now one year on the British writer’s son revealed he has struggled with the constant reminders of his mum on TV.

This time last year Eamonn and Ruth along with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video call announced the devastating news.

Holly said: “I found out yesterday but hearing you guys talking makes it sound so real.

“She was a huge part of the family and when I started she welcomed me in with open arms and has been wonderful listening to my stories.

“Whatever she did on screen was the tip of the iceberg – she was a real fighter for everybody.”

Phil added: “This is absolutely heartbreaking.”
