A cheap engagment ring caused quite a stir

The One Show fans were taken aback when a guest said if her husband bought a cheap engagement ring she would like to make him eat it so he would be in pain when passing it!

The topic of discussion was the £1 engagement ring available from Poundland and whether people would be happy if it was bought for them.

Presenter Matt Baker, 41, said: “For me, it’s a celebration of the fact you have made this commitment to each other. The ring is kind of irrelevant.

“It’s not what it’s worth, it’s what it means.”

While his co-host Alex Jones, also 41, admitted she wouldn’t be “annoyed” if she received it.

But an audience member went as far as to say she would be so “miffed” by receiving the pound ring that she would hide it in her partner’s dinner and hope it was painful when he then passed it!

She said live on air: “I would be really miffed! I mean, my husband is a right cheapskate for anybody that knows him out there.

“And I would actually put it in his dinner so that he’d end up eating it and then it would hurt coming out the other end.”

The rest of the studio gasped and Alex tried to wrap it up by saying: “Oh, brilliant, thank you. I think I agree, if it turns your finger green, it’s got to go.”

Meanwhile, Matt looked sufficiently bewildered by the woman’s admission.

Viewers quickly took to social media to comment on what they had just heard.

“So that woman on #theoneshow would feed a cheap ring to her “cheapskate” husband?” questioned one.

Another added: “Someone on The One Show just said she’d make her husband eat a cheap engagement ring and hope it ruined his [BLEEP] on the way out.”
