The Chase’s Anne Hegerty says “sex is better in my head”

She struggles to hold down a romantic revelation

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty is a staple on our screens thanks to her appearances on the hit gameshow.

And she also won plenty of hearts when she took part in last year’s I’m A Celebrity.

But now, despite her affection from the British public, the Governess has revealed that holding down a relationship is difficult for her and that “sex is better in my head”.

The 60-year-old telly favourite suffers from Asperger Syndrome, a condition that wasn’t diagnosed until she was 44.

In an interview with The Sun, Anne says that after years of living on the breadline she finally saw her life change when she landed a role on The Chase in 2009.

But despite her new-found fame – and money – there was never a permanent man in her life and she finds it “really hard to hold down a relationship”.

“It took years of psychotherapy before I even considered dating,” she says.

“I lost weight, replaced my glasses with contact lenses and felt a lot more confident.”

She added: “But I find it really hard to hold down a relationship.”

She admitted that her longest relationship was four months, with a man who she met in the Mastermind Club and had always fancied.

“Sex was always better in my head, I felt like I was somewhere else while it was happening,” she continued.

Earlier this year, Anne refuted rumours that she was about to leave The Chase.

In an interview on the red carpet at the NTAs, Anne admitted she had considered retiring her job as as she finds it “overwhelming” at times.

Anne has now clarified her comments saying she doesn’t intend to leave her role as The Governess on the ITV quiz show.

She said: “I love doing The Chase, I’m absolutely loyal to it and it will always be my top priority. I don’t intend ever to leave!”
