The Chase fans feared host Bradley Walsh had been killed in Edinburgh shooting

They were confused following the death of actor Bradley Welsh

Tragic reports emerged this morning that actor and hardman Bradley Welsh was shot dead in Edinburgh.

The T2 Trainspotting star, 48, was reportedly killed in a shooting in the city’s west end on Wednesday (April 17th) evening.

Fans of ITV’s The Chase were in shock as the news broke, mistakenly believing it was quiz show host Bradley Walsh who had been gunned down.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Fully was convinced Bradley Walsh just died… I don’t wanna be in a universe where Bradley Walsh is dead.”

Another said: “Just saw something that said ‘Bradley Welsh shot dead in Edinburgh’ and my heart actually dropped because I thought it said Bradley WALSH. I was just not ready to loose that national treasure and live without him on The Chase. He’s okay!”

Someone else tweeted: “Had a near heart attack when I heard Bradley WELSH (from T2 Trainspotting) was killed. Feel bad but I first read Bradley WALSH!”

A fourth said: “That moment when your husband shouts to you from the other room, ‘OMG Annie, Bradley Walsh has been shot dead!’ I thought it was our Bradley off The Chase. I [love] everything he has done and think he is great. Sad for the other Bradley Walsh [sic] too though.”

A fifth wrote: “When you’re out the country and not reading news properly from home, and think Bradley WALSH has been shot in Edinburgh, and even worse, you’ve told a couple of fellow Brits that the presenter of The Chase has been shot… DOH!”

According to a BBC report, a local said they were told an individual had been shot in the head.

Police, who are treating the incident as murder, cordoned off the street and asked residents to stay indoors.

Welsh was best known for his portrayal of gangland figure Doyle in T2 Trainspotting.

He also made an appearance in the 00s documentary series Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men, hosted EastEnders’ Danny Dyer.

Novelist Irvine Welsh, whose book Trainspotting inspired the films of the same name, paid tribute to his “amazing and beautiful friend” on Twitter, tweeting: “Thanks for making me a better person and helping me to see the world in a kinder and wiser way.”
