Sunday Brunch power cut forces show to cut to ad break

The Channel 4 studio was plunged into darkness

Today’s Sunday Brunch was forced to cut to an ad break after a power cut meant the studio was plunged into darkness.

During a cooking segment featuring hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy and Ghost stars Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe, the lights suddenly went out.

“Is this a thing you have done because we are on a show called Ghosts?” actress Charlotte asked, assuming it was just a prank.

“Apparently we have to carry on broadcasting like this,” Tim said, before Simon joked that someone needed to put some more money in the meter.

“Apparently we are going to go to an advert break to see if someone can put some money in the meter to fix the lights.”

But it was back to business after the ad break, with Tim telling the audience at home: “Just needed plugging in, that was all it was.”

He went on: “We’re back, did you miss us? So the electrics are back, we’re here with Charlotte and Kiell. Shall we cook something?”

Viewers soon took to Twitter to joke about the technical blunder, with one writing: “Power cut. Oh dear.”

A second tweeted: “Cooking in the dark – oh, this will be good.”

Making light of it, the show later tweeted: “Well that was exciting! Our first ever Sunday Brunch power cut.”

It comes less than a month after the show was hit by a similar technical fault, which saw it forced off air for a minute.

The programme was in the middle of a segment about coffee from around the world when it was suddenly replaced by a message saying: “Programmes continue shortly.”
