Strictly star signs for dating website – but encounters a problem

Not all celebrity profiles on dating websites are fake.

While many celebrities shy away from dating websites because of their very public nature, Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood is embracing technology in a bid to find love.

After splitting from long-term love Damon Scott last year, the outspoken 52-year-old is ready to get back on the dating scene.

And proving he’s a modern man, Craig’s joined millions of us in signing up for a dating app – but sadly for him, he’s learning a celebrity on a dating app will never be just like the rest of us…

You’d think people would jump at the chance to enjoy dinner and drinks with a bona fide TV star, but apparently that’s not the case.

So, what’s gone wrong?

Craig told The Mirror that his time on the dating site hasn’t been going “particularly well” as he’s struggling to find people who actually want to get to know him. Bless.

First, it seems EVERYONE who contacts Craig just wants Strictly goss!

And secondly, everyone else doesn’t believe it’s actually Craig himself who has signed up!

He explained: “People don’t ask if I want to go out, it’s all about Strictly.

“It’s odd me being on there but why can’t I, if everyone else is? Just because I’m in the public eye doesn’t mean I can’t be on dating sites.”

Craig went on to say his profile has had a “lot of complaints” from angry daters thinking he’s an impostor using fake photos. Oops.

“One said, ‘I’m reporting you for using someone else’s photo, it’s disgusting, you should be ashamed’. I replied, ‘I am me!’”

To be fair, we can understand why people may be sceptical if they came across Craig on a dating app – you just don’t expect to see celebs signed up, do you?

And you’re ALWAYS hearing about famous people being catfished on dating websites; just recently Laura Whitmore had to speak out and deny she was on Tinder after people noticed a profile using her name and photos had been set up.

As for the ones just wanting Strictly gossip, hello?! Perhaps if you actually took the time to go out with Craig you’d get BOTH gossip and find love. Short-sighted…

It’s not the first time Craig has spoken out about dabbling with online dating.

He previously told Prima: “I’m on Match.com but I’m sure that people look at my picture and think, ‘Oh no, it’s that bloke on the telly!’

Craig broke up with Damon, his partner of three years, in May 2016.

It seems that Craig has changed his tune when it comes to finding love again, as shortly after his split from Damon, he told The Mirror he couldn’t just ask people out publicly as everyone in his life had to sign a confidentiality clause.

“Sadly everyone in my life has to sign a confidentiality clause,” he said at the time.

“I know it’s awful and crazy. It doesn’t start a relationship off on a great footing, but I have to protect my privacy.”

As we all know, however, things change over time… just look at his comments on finding love again after the split: Craig told The Telegraph in August last year he was happy being single and not ready for a new relationship.

Now he is. And we hope he finds it!
