Strictly favourite Daisy Lowe reveals her true feelings about gaining two stone

Model hits back at body shamers

Model and fashion star Daisy Lowe is one of this year’s hotly-tipped Strictly Come Dancing contestants.

She has certainly impressed so far with her dances, never falling into the bottom half of the leader board – and even topping it in the first week.

So it would be difficult for viewers of the popular BBC programme to recognise that the 27-year-old battles with insecurities over her figure, but Daisy has now revealed that she does struggle despite her confident routines and poise on the dance floor.

The lingerie model said: “One of the reasons I did Strictly was to help others feel good about their bodies.”

She went on, explaining to the Sunday People: “Every day we’re shown images about the perfect body and what it should be – but we just have the ones that we live in.

“We don’t have a choice in the matter. We are going to get older, it’s inevitable. And I think there is so much being thrown at us.”

The star, who has admitted to having body image demons before, especially due to being part of the fashion world, added: “Everyone battles their insecurities on a daily basis. So do I, I’m human.

“I have been on a learning curve the last few years. The older I get the more comfortable I am in my own skin and therefore I get to enjoy what I do.”

Daisy explained that she “loves food” and that she is pleased she has “a little bit of chunk” on her frame, going “against the grain”.

She revealed that at her lowest weight, she weighed 8st but that she is now 10st and happier than ever.

Daisy and her dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec opened Saturday night’s Movie Week episode of Strictly with an impressive Mary Poppins-themed Quick Step, and they scored an overall of 31 points, along with fellow competitors Will Young and Louise Redknapp.
