Loose Women stars Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams admit they “couldn’t stand each other” when they met

It's a good job things have changed

If you’re a fan of Loose Women, you’ll know that presenters Nadia Sawalha and Kaye Adams are the best of friends.

But in a new interview, the pair revealed that their first impressions weren’t great – admitting that initially they “couldn’t stand each other”.

Speaking on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, Nadia, 53, admitted: “When we met each other, we couldn’t stand each other – I thought she was so up herself.

“If you had told me all that time ago that we’d still be friends, I’d never have believed it.”

Kaye, 55, added: “The first impressions were not good. Because she was like one of those bohemian hippies, she had on flip flops – it was too cold for flip flops – and she had rings on her toes, which I think is a dodgy mark of somebody.

“And she thought I was a stuck-up cow.”

Nadia agreed, saying: “A bit superior, up yourself.”

And despite growing close, the pair have had a rocky friendship over the years.

On an episode of Loose Women last year, former actress Nadia admitted they’d even gone “years” without speaking at one point, after she “cut off” Kaye.

She revealed to the panel. “I’ve done it twice to Kaye. I started to get really insecure about whether I was enough for a friend.

“It’s a thing of great shame in my life.”

Kaye said later: “I was really hurt… there just wasn’t room for me at the time.”

Ahead of the interview on Sunday, Nadia and Kaye – who are now such good friends they even share an Instagram account – posted a couple of on-set pictures.

They wrote: “So excited to be here! Behind the scenes @sundaybrunchc4 Come on over squad! #disasterchef”.

Sunday brunch presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer also asked the TV stars if they knew how huge Loose Women – which is now on its 22nd series after starting in 1999 – would become.

Kaye replied: “Yeah, we did, fairly quickly. But we didn’t before. We were both at the final screen test and they were struggling to get the right mix so at that point, it was just a ridiculous idea.

“But it really was quite quick, it just felt right. Do you know when a show just feels right?”

Nadia agreed, saying: “Well, there’d never been anything like it. And of course the title was great.”

Kaye added: “Loose Women, that [name] attracted a lot of attention…”
