Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell has been declared bankrupt.
The soap star, 53, has played garage mechanic Kevin Webster for three-and-a-half decades.
He was declared bankrupt on January 8 under his birth name, Michael Robert Turner, with the order updated last week to reflect his stage name.
According to the Mirror, HMRC were named as the petitioner in the High Court and sources have revealed the actor’s outstanding bill was “a six-figure sum”.
Michael first joined Coronation Street in 1983 and quickly endeared himself to fans, who have followed the trials and tribulations of Kevin, from Brian Tilsley’s apprentice mechanic through to his stormy marriage to Sally, played by Sally Dynevor.
In 2013, Michael was cleared of child abuse charges at Manchester Crown Court, but had to pay £200,000 legal costs.
In happier news, Michael is set to tie the knot after popping the question to longterm girlfriend, Louise Gibbons, last December.
Louise and Michael are reportedly planning a low-key ceremony to celebrate their love.
The actor was previously married to wife Janette Beverley, but that relationship broke down in 2011.
He was reportedly then introduced to Louise via a mutual friend three years later.
Michael has kept their romance away from the limelight, declining to discuss Louise or their relationship in public.
But a source previously told The Mirror: “Michael has had a very difficult couple of years but Louise was the best thing that happened to him.
“He is so happy with Louise.”
This should give him something to look forward to through the difficult times.
