The UK has woken up to a freezing morning as snow and ice cause travel chaos across the country.
With the cold weather set to continue, Brits are being warned to stockpile food – especially for the elderly who may not be able to get out in these conditions.
Runways have been closed at both Manchester and Liverpool airports as snow hits, and Highways England have urged caution when driving in the North West.

Greater Manchester police have urged drivers to “slow down and take care” as roads are particularly treacherous.
Devon and Cornwall police have also warned road users to drive carefully as a number of accidents have already been reported.

The Met Office has warned with temperatures dropping people may become delayed on the roads “with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.
“There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off.
“There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.”
They also added slips and falls on icy surfaces were a danger and some pavements and cycle paths may be “impassable because of black ice.”
Yellow weather warnings remain in place until at least Friday February 1.
With another Arctic blast predicted for Thursday afternoon, set to bring 10cm of snow in places, the cold weather doesn’t look like it’s abating any time soon.
The Met Office have revealed what an icy start some had to Wednesday, saying sleet and snow showers were continuing in the north and west.

They added: “Further snow showers will be coming in throughout the day across the northwest of Scotland.
“Temperatures will be 2-3C in places and will drop sharply through Wednesday night.
“Down to the far south west, the wind’s picking up and a band of wet weather is pushing in, that’s a weather front and that is crucial to Thursday’s forecast.
“Tied into an area of low pressure, the winds will be picking up and as well as the moisture hitting the cold air we could start to see some further significant snowfall.”
The Mirror reports that Age UK have advised the elderly to stock up on food and medication, and urged people to help any relatives or neighbours that may find themselves struggling in the wintry conditions.

Thursday is set to bring more chaos as another blast of snow hits.
The entire country is on a yellow weather warning on Thursday from 3pm onwards.
