Shock for Mel B as LA court reportedly orders her to cough up HUGE payment to ex Stephen Belafonte

But can the ex-Spice Girl afford it?

The Spice Girls once had a hit with Too Much, and Mel B might well be wondering if she’s having to stump up too much to her estranged husband following a reported court ruling.

According to US website TMZ, the former Scary Spice has been ordered to pay Stephen Belafonte £30,500 a month in “emergency spousal support” while the couple’s divorce is finalised.

It’s believed that the money will cover the film producer’s living expenses – food, phone and housing bills.

On top of this, it’s reckoned that Mel will have to cough up a one-off payment of £106,813 to cover Belafonte’s legal fees. Yikes!

The singer, 42, filed for divorce in March, claiming in documents that Belafonte had subjected her to “emotional and physical abuse” during their ten years of marriage.

She stated: “‘He said he would destroy my career and take my kids from me. He threatened to release sexually explicit videotapes claiming I would never again work in the entertainment industry.”

It was also alleged that Belafonte, also 42, had impregnated the couple’s German nanny, Lorraine Gilles, then paid for her to have an abortion.

Mel – who was once worth £38million – was forced to reveal in court last month that she’d blown most of her fortune.

Due to what her lawyer Jacalyn Davis described as “improvident lifestyle choices”,  one of her bank accounts had just £961 left in it.

Speaking of the couple’s lavish spending, Davis explained: “All their community income was being spent and then some. In this marriage, that would be Miss Brown’s income from the Spice Girls.”

All of which begs the question: how will she afford to pay for Belafonte’s costs?

Luckily, Yorkshire-born Mel – real name Melanie Brown – gets paid around £190,000 a month for her judging work on America’s Got Talent.

But there’s sure to be more expenditure on the horizon as the divorce hearing continues – and mother-of-three Mel also has mouths to feed.

Maybe it could finally be time for that Spice Girls reunion we’ve been waiting so long for…
