Shaun Ryder compares himself to ‘Uncle Fester’ after hair loss

The singer says his hair loss is down to his recent health struggles

Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder has opened up about his extreme hair loss.

And he says it’s left him looking like Uncle Fester from The Addams Family.

The 56-year-old singer and television personality spoke to The Sunday People about his recent health battles, and how they’ve had a knock-on effect on his looks.

Shaun told the paper that he’s currently recovering from a major hip operation, and that his hair loss is from suffering from a thyroid gland condition.

“I reckon all my hair will start coming back in the next three months or so when we get the treatment levels sorted,” he said.

“Hobbling about on me crutches with alopecia – it’s not a great rock ’n’ roll image is it?” he added.

But still finding humour amidst his ongoing health issues, he joked that he now resembles an infamous Addams Family character.

“It’s more like a mental Uncle Fester than Mick Jagger!” he said.

Shaun was known for decades for his hell raising antics and very rock and roll lifestyle.

The Manchurian’s wild 80’s lifestyle was even the inspiration for the cult movie 24 Hour Party People.

And he enjoyed many hits with Happy Mondays, including Kinky Afro, Hallelujah and Step On.

In recent years he’s become known for appearing on the celebrity game show circuit.

He’s appeared on the likes of Celebrity Mastermind (his subject was Manchester, obvs), Celebrity Juice and he was of course a runner-up on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! back in 2010.
