Scarlett Moffatt opens up about mystery illness

Star's condition ruled her out of I'm A Celeb trial

Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt has been battling a secret illness for years.

The 26-year-old was not allowed to take part in the latest Bushtucker Trial on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! due to facial paralysis.

Scarlett was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy after being in a car accident aged just 11.

She was knocked down and it caused temporary paralysis on one side of Scarlett’s face.

During the latest trial, Joel Dommett had to climb a huge tower, but it is something that Scarlett would have really struggled with.

Scarlett is unable to completely close her left eye and is ruled out of tasks involving great heights.

The Geordie lass explained all in her autobiography, Scarlett Says.

“I was doing a performance for my mum and dad – I used to put on little shows for them – when all of a sudden, my mouth just drooped and I remember standing in front of the mirror and just screaming,” she wrote.

“My eye dropped, I couldn’t speak properly, I got all slurred, and my mum and dad thought I was putting it on.”

This must have been terrifying!

She went on to talk about how it still affects her.

“I have to sleep with a little eye mask and my mouth still goes to the side when I talk, although people don’t really notice,” she admitted.

However, she doesn’t let any of it hold her back and doesn’t want any sympathy “as there are so many worse afflictions people can get”.

It’s pretty clear in the jungle, that she is willing to try almost anything.

She has taken part in the first and second Bushtucker Trials which involved her being locked in a critter-infested underground bunker and eating the grossest bushtucker.

In the eating challenge, with Carol Vorderman, Scarlett had to eat camel nipple and a live beetle.
