Same-sex couple who star in McCain chips ad hit by appalling social media abuse

The couple, who have a 19-month-old son, have been hurt by the disgusting comments

A couple who appear in the new McCain chips “We Are Family” advert have revealed that they’ve been subjected to cruel remarks by trolls.

Lee and Mat Samuels-Camozzi appear in the ad with their 19-month-old son Carter, but some viewers were not happy with it.

“We’ve had dozens of hateful comments,” Lee, 35, told The Mirror.

“One of the most hurtful compared us to perverts saying, ‘Whatever next, society accepting paedophiles?’

“We are shocked this kind of attitude exists in the 21st century. We’re proud of our little family and have nothing to be ashamed of.”

The couple, who live in Manchester, welcomed Carter thanks to a surrogate.

They were approached to appear in the ad after a modelling agency run by a friend’s mum got in touch.

McCain produced an uplifting, inclusive advert, which also features other families, but sadly some people are too narrow-minded to accept this.

“Not buying McCain again,” wrote one viewer on the brand’s YouTube channel. “You just summed up everything that is wrong with today’s society.”

Another viewer wrote complained about “looney liberal ad companies” [sic].

Others were thankfully more positive. “What a great ad,” wrote one viewer. “So important to the show the world as it really is.”

Added another viewer: “Best advert I’ve seen in a long, long time.”

“This is such a cute ad,” wrote viewer Jenny Rose. “People will hate on anything. So bitter.”
