She had to walk off set as she was "upset"

Fans have sent their support to Ruth Langsford after she took a brief break during today’s This Morning.

The presenter was overcome with emotion during the phone-in segment after a woman called in and spoke about suffering from depression and anxiety.

Ruth’s husband Eamonn Holmes explained to viewers that she had decided to leave the studio as the woman’s comments hit close to home.

Eamonn said that Ruth’s late sister Julia, who passed away in June, was a “chronic depressive”.

He said: “This is featured in Ruth’s life, she’s upset now and has had to leave the studio because of her sister, who was a chronic depressive.

“No matter what kind of help and medication was there, it didn’t really make much difference.”

Following an advert break, Ruth returned alongside Eamonn and continued with the show.

Fans have now offered their support to Ruth on social media.

One person said: “@RuthieeL thought it was very brave of Ruth to even attempt to be involved in that phone in… hope she is OK #thismorning.”
