Ruth Langsford left emotional on This Morning after heartbreaking toddler cancer story

The This Morning host was in tears after meeting cute one-year-old Dawson who has a very rare cancer

Ruth Langsford was left emotional on This Morning, after meeting an adorable toddler with a very rare form of cancer.

The host was close to tears after hearing the story of 15-month-old Dawson, whose parents are campaigning to try and get him life-saving treatment in America.

The tot was diagnosed with a ‘one in a million cancer’ known as Hepatoblastoma in January this year. It is the same liver cancer that singer Michael Buble’s son Noah suffered from.

After initially being told that it was treatable and curable, Dawson’s cancer has turned out to be resistant to chemotherapy and has now spread to his lungs.

So in a bid to save their beloved son’s life, Dawson’s parents Wendy and David are trying to raise half a million pounds so that he can receive treatment in America.

And it was meeting the heartbroken parents – and Dawson himself – that reduced Ruth to tears.

Mum Wendy explained that they have a fundraising campaign called Dollar for Dawson, and are in talks with a doctor to see about treating him once they had raised the funds.

“We hang on to hope, that’s all we have at the moment – hope and belief,” Wendy explained.

“We need to raise about £500,000. It’s an enormous amount and it’s horrible having a price on your child’s life, but we just can’t do it on our own.”

As Ruth and husband Eamonn Holmes chatted to the devastated couple, young Dawson was smiling, waving and pulling faces.

And despite both of them being emotional and close to tears, they also couldn’t help but laugh and smile back.

Ruth said: “I just have to laugh, look at him, he’s so poorly but he’s so cheeky and smiling.”

To which Dawson’s mum Wendy replied: “That is why we fight, he has so much life in him, how do you give up?”

Eamonn spoke to fellow dad David, commenting on how much Dawson looked like him, and the lengths people go to for their children.

“I’d do anything for him, absolutely anything,” David admitted.

The hosts weren’t the only ones getting choked up. Viewers tweeted to share how heartbroken they were, and their hopes for Dawson’s recovery.

And One Direction star Louis Tomlinson’s sister Lottie obviously wanted to help with the fundraising, tweeting to her 2.6 million followers: “Please donate for this little boy”, followed by the JustGiving link and a heart emoji.

This Morning is on ITV every weekday at 10.30am.
