Ronan Keating reveals "pride and pain" as eldest son goes travelling

He's off to spend a year in Australia

Ronan Keating said farewell to his eldest son Jack this week, sending him off on a year-long trip to Australia.

The family shared several emotional posts to Instagram as they dropped Jack off at Heathrow Airport.

Ronan shared a photo of Jack standing between his dad, and his step-mother, Storm Keating, and one of him as he walked through the gate to the departure lounge.

The images were accompanied by an emotional post.

"Well there he goes, my hero," Ronan said. "I’m so full of pride but the pain is like nothing else. Already missing you so much.

I’m so full of pride but feck the pain is like nothing else.

"I love you so much pal, you are and always will be MY boy. My first and one of my proudest achievements. Today won’t be easy @jackkeating_ but each day will get easier.

"Travel safe Son. The rest of your life begins today. Bravely you lead the way for your brother and sisters to follow... you are some man for one man.

"We will miss you like crazy but thank God for tech today. Already can’t wait to see you again and hear about all your adventures. Love you with all of me and like always, I’ll be in the wings for you when you need me. Dad X "

Jack's mother, Yvonne Connelly posted some throwback photos of her and Jack, as well as a recent photo of the pair having one last drink.

"💔heartbroken," she said. "Dropped my baby to the airport this morning. Off to Australia for a year. The pain is real. I’m so excited for him too. Spread your wings Jacko. I love you so much 💕 #travel #love #home."

Jack's younger sister Missy shared a farewell post, saying simply, "Best of luck in Australia @jackkeating_ We’ll miss you X."

One-year-old Cooper had a little more to say! Jack's stepmum Storm shared a post speaking from Cooper's point of view, as he said goodbye to his big bro.

"Going to miss you so much because you’re the best big brother in the whole wide world and you’re just always 😎 plus you always laugh at me," she said.

"When I grow up, I want to be just like you and I’m going to go live in Australia too. Can’t wait until I see you at Christmas, love Coops x."

Jack himself kept his online farewell simple - he posted a shot to Instagram stories - showing a table in the departure lounge, with his boarding pass and passport waiting expectantly on top of it.
