Queen’s cousin the Duke of Kent ‘involved in road collision with student’

No injuries were reported

The Queen’s cousin has been involved in a car accident involving a student near Brighton, according to reports.

The Duke of Kent, 83, is believed to have been travelling in his Jaguar when he almost collided with a Mini driven by Olivia Fellows, 21.

The incident, which reportedly happened on June 2, was said to have left the student “badly shaken”.

Fellows, who studies neuroscience at the University of Sussex, told the Mail Online: “I was driving north at 60mph and suddenly this Jaguar pulled out in front of me.

“I saw the Jag to my left and it looked like he was going to go, then hesitated and changed his mind and went to go again.

“He shot across the road. But it was so close that if I hadn’t emergency braked I would have gone straight into the middle of his car.”

Speaking further, Fellows said she put on her brakes, which caused her car to spin towards the central reservation and smash into it. She said the airbags inflated and the engine was spewing smoke.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed a royal household vehicle was “indirectly involved” in a collision on June 2.

The spokesperson also said “all the relevant details” are with the police.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed the incident took place, revealing that coppers were called “to a collision on the A27 at Firle” on June 2, a Sunday, at “around 8.30pm”.

They said a vehicle hit the central reservation but added that no injuries were reported.

The Duke of Kent, Prince Edward, is a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II through their fathers, Prince George and and King George VI.

It follows a road incident near the Sandrimgham Estate earlier this year involving Prince Philip.

The woman in the other car branded the Queen’s husband “inconsiderate” and “highly insensitive” after he was seen driving without a seatbelt 48 hours later – but she herself has since been banned from driving.
