Jeremy Kyle gets put in his place by Scottish MP on GMB

The politician referenced Jeremy's own show to shut down his controversial questioning

Jeremy Kyle was left looking foolish on Good Morning Britain, after being put in his place by a Scottish MP.

The stand-in presenter – who is into his second week covering for Piers Morgan – was presenting a segment on baby boxes for new mums alongside co-host Kate Garraway, when the embarrassing incident occurred.

But perhaps trying to be controversial, Jeremy asked Mark McDonald MSP, Scotland’s Minister for Children and Early Years, why the box contained condoms.

Holding them up to the camera, Jez put Mark on the spot as he demanded to know why the government were giving out contraception to new mums.

Keeping his cool, the MSP answered the confrontational host by referencing his own show, which often features people rowing over babies and affairs and everything sex-related.

“Well I would have thought you’d done enough episodes of The Jeremy Kyle Show by now Jeremy to understand how this process works,” said Mr McDonald.

“There is an issue about getting an understanding for parents of the fact that a woman is exceptionally fertile postpartum and ensuring the parents are making the necessary precautions.

“We want to encourage and ensure that parents do not experience unexpected second pregnancies as a consequence of unsafe sex following the birth of a child, that is why there are condoms in the box.”

The £160 boxes are being sent out to new mothers all across Scotland. They contain a range of basic essential items and hope to encourage safe sleeping and help cut cot death.

Knowing he’d been put in his place, a rather stunned-looking Jeremy called the MSP a “good lad” for making a joke about his show and conceded he’d been put straight.

“Fair play Mark, absolutely fair play I’ll say to him, absolutely,” said Jezza.

GMB viewers were keen to point out that Jeremy had been owned, going online to share their glee about him being “shamed”.

One tweeted “#GMB Mark McDonald… thanks for shaming Jezza” while another reinforced the MSP’s point, saying “Oh Jeremy, contraception is important after birth, it’s so easy to get pregnant again quickly. @GMB #GMB”

And a third quipped “Jeremy was put back in his box there.”

Maybe he’ll keep mum from now on…
