Sussexes share Princess Diana quote as they announce new social media plans

Royal fans were delighted

| Updated:

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have revealed plans to take their social media strategy in a new direction and “inspire” royal fans with iconic quotes.

Announcing the move on their Instagram account, the Sussexes started off by sharing words from Harry’s late mum, Princess Diana.

The quote read: “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”

The post, shared on Friday afternoon (09.08.19), was captioned: “Words have the power to inspire, which is why we’re happy to share some of our favourite quotes.

“From members of the public to public figures, from teachers and students to young leaders, we begin with a quote from Diana, Princess of Wales.”

Within minutes, it attracted hundreds of messages of support from adoring fans.

One said in the comments: “Princess Diana was so loved and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing one of my favourite quotes of all time. She is missed. Much love.”

Another wrote: “Beautiful in every sense and meaning.”

A third put: “Love, love, love that you cherish and share her memory.”

It follows reports earlier this year that the Sussexes had ramped up efforts to raise their profile online by recruiting a social media manager.

MailOnline claimed that Harry and Meghan had taken on a new member of staff to look after social networking, following the initial success of their shared Instagram account.

Their page, @sussexroyal, launched in April and by June had amassed a following of 8.5 million, with that number now standing at 9.3 million.

Their follower count remains around 500,000 behind that of the the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, whose @kensingtonroyal account was set up in 2015.

Since launching their Instagram, the Sussexes have used it to share personal messages as well as nods of support to their associated charities and causes.

Earlier this month, Meghan celebrated her first birthday as a mum. A photo marking the milestone on their Instagram account contained a personal note from Harry.

The heartfelt message read: “Happy Birthday to my amazing wife. Thank you for joining me on this adventure! – Love, H.”
