Prince Harry ‘snubs’ Trump at Palace after president denied “nasty” Meghan remarks

However, there seems to be an explanation

| Updated:

The Duke of Sussex appeared to keep his distance from President Donald Trump at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

Trump touched down in the UK on Monday for a three-day state visit and attended an event at the Palace alongside his family and members of the royal family, including the Queen and Prince Charles.

Harry had chaperoned Mr Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, into Buckingham Palace’s Picture Gallery to look at a display of US-themed artefacts.

But he reportedly left Ivanka to talk to the Lord Chamberlain while the Queen showed the Trumps around with Prince Charles close behind as Harry stayed in the background.

According to The Sun, an onlooker said: “Harry was the third most senior royal in the room after the Queen and his father, but didn’t seem to take any part in his royal duties.”

However, there seems to be a logical reason as to why Harry – who is sixth in line to the throne – didn’t walk around the exhibition with Trump.

A royal source told the MailOnline that there was no “scripted procession” for members of the royal family to walk round and view the exhibition.

It’s also been said that as a lesser royal, Harry would have been dealing with entourage rather than showing Trump around the exhibition.

Harry’s wife Meghan didn’t attend the event as she’s on maternity leave following the birth of their first child, son Archie.

Trump’s visit to the palace comes after he rubbished claims he called Meghan “nasty”.

The controversial president took to Twitter on Sunday (June 2) to deny the reports – despite there being an audio recording of the remarks.

He wrote: “I never called Meghan Markle ‘nasty’. Made up by the Fake News Media, and they got caught cold!”

Meghan has criticised Trump in the past, calling him a “misogynist” and “divisive” as she supported his opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 presidential race.

During an interview with The Sun at the time, Trump responded to her remarks saying: “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”

Despite that, he went on to say “it is nice” she had joined the royal family and he believed “she will do excellently”, adding: “She will be very good.”
